Stories involving the the non-human creations of JK Rowling have always interested me - this is one of mine - it's quite short (about two hundred words) and has my personal favourite - Hedwig.

Contains a spoiler for book/film seven.

Flying, flying, flying. I hate the cage but today I am glad to be in it - The air itself twitches with tension like a mouse beneath my claws. Messagesender-madeye is here and Messagesender-hairchanges. Others are coming on their airsticks and the twitches get worse.

I can fly faster than any airstick and I know the secretways - I think these would be good tonight but messagesenders never follow messengers - they just wait for us.

Flying, flying at last we fly! Messagesender-harry worries like a rabbit in the field - he is being watched.

There, from the back like all good hunters. I squawk a warning but I am not heard. Messagesenders have ears like fish.

Green.

Nothing.

Then I am freer than I have ever been. My wings are light and catch the nightbreeze like a swallow. I turn. Mothwing, my mother is to my side. And Snowclaw her mate to the other.

I have not seen them in so long. An ache I did not realise I had lifts from my heart. They gesture up. Far, far below messagesender-harry flies downward but it is time for me to ascend…

I liked the non-human perspective--the way the messenger labels the messenger-senders, and how she understand theor weaknesses.

Thank you! I wanted to give the piece a real non-human feel but (obviously) in a way people could understand. I am pleased it was successful. :))
